Heartbreak Town

By Ronnie McCoury

This is no place to raise a family

There’s too much violence all around

Our children can’t grow up to learn to live by guns

Here in Heartbreak Town

The sad, sad sound of sirens

When you listen it sure does bring you down

It’s heard all night long

Be glad that you’re at home

And not on the streets of Heartbreak Town

CHORUS:

I’ve gotta get out of this place

Back to the country away from the rat race

My true love I left behind

I want to take her away and beg her to be mine

And I’ll never go back to Heartbreak Town

The homeless beg for money

On every street corner they are found

I’ll give my last dime

Only to hope and find that they’ll get out of Heartbreak Town

I left the back roads of my raisin’

Bright lights fame and fortune I would find

Now all I’ve found all is sorrow

I keep saying I’d leave tomorrow from the clutch of Heartbreak Town

CHORUS (2x)

And I’ll never go back to Heartbreak Town
